Technology, innovation, and integration: the journey of Westport Fuel Systems
The history of Westport Fuel Systems is characterized by constant, strategic evolution in the development of alternative fuel technologies.
For over 50 years, the company and its brands have designed and manufactured advanced alternative fuel systems, contributing to the development of solutions that reduce emissions compared to conventional fuel systems while complying with current regulations.
The development of the company
The history of Westport Fuel Systems is part of a process of technological and industrial growth that has progressively consolidated the Group’s role as a global benchmark in alternative fuel mobility. The recent evolution reached a crucial moment in 2020 with the creation of Westport Fuel Systems Italia following the merger by incorporation of EMER S.p.A. into M.T.M. S.r.l., which already owned the BRC Gas Equipment, Zavoli, OMVL, and Valtek brands. The new industrial configuration has made it possible to integrate engineering expertise, production capabilities, and advanced know-how geared towards the development of innovative systems for LPG, CNG, LNG, and other solutions with reduced environmental impact.
Within the Group, the leading brands play a strategic role in defining a comprehensive technological system. BRC, with its established international presence and range of highly reliable conversion systems, is one of the pillars of the industry and a benchmark in the aftermarket and D-OEM sectors. EMER, thanks to its specialisation in high-precision components, contributes key technologies for gas flow management and control, offering a complete range of OEM-qualified systems and components for alternative fuels, including CNG, LNG, LPG, and hydrogen.
Stako, a global leader in the production of LPG and CNG tanks, enriches the group with advanced and certified storage solutions. Prins Autogas Systems, renowned for its high-tech, high-performance injection systems, offers outstanding efficiency and precision.
Alongside these brands, Valtek is a leader in the production of injectors and electromechanical components that guarantee precision and repeatability in fuel systems. OMVL, with a long tradition in conversion kits and control units, contributes solutions focused on reliability and ease of application. Zavoli, on the other hand, enriches the group with specific expertise in high-efficiency LPG and CNG systems, the result of a history deeply rooted in research and development.
The integration of these historic brands—each bringing distinctive patents, innovations, and know-how—has enabled Westport Fuel Systems to establish one of the most advanced global hubs in the alternative fuels sector, not only in terms of volume and international presence but, above all, regarding technological depth and the ability to drive the transition toward more sustainable mobility.
Since 1975, the Electronics Business Unit has been offering design and manufacturing services for high-tech electronic devices, while since 2010, the BRC Racing Team has been contributing to the development of an integrated R&D and marketing programme, promoting the company’s image through motorsport.
